Joining Instructions

Welcome to the Hydro-JULES  School joining instructions Web page. 

In order to participate in the Hydro-JULES School you will need:

  • A fully-charged laptop or tablet together with a webcam/in-built camera.

  • Good-quality access to the internet.

  • Ability to use an affiliated email (i.e. an institutional email provided by an academic or private institution, not a personal gmail, outlook or hotmail address).

  • Access to a UNIX/Linux-based system eligible for JASMIN access as described on https://jasmin.ac.uk/users/access/ . Please note that the JASMIN servers will automatically refuse access from unaffiliated machines that do not have reverse DNS entries (e.g. personal laptops), so please check with your IT support or IT manager at your affiliated institution (whether academic or private) to ensure that this sort of access is possible.

  • Access to a video-calling system with sufficient bandwidth to maintain a Zoom/Skype/Microsoft Teams/Other call, as set out on https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/204003179-System-requirements-for-Zoom-Rooms to attend the sessions online. You can test your bandwidth online (e.g. https://www.comparitech.com/internet-providers/speed-test/): 2.0 Mbps upload and download is sufficient for video calling.

In addition to this, you will require access to the following systems (n.b. the application process for some of these logins can take up to 10 days, so please ensure that you have allowed sufficient time for any technical difficulties to be resolved.

 

 

Access to Gather.town Please go to https://www.tobymarthews.com/gather.html and follow the instructions there to access the Hydro-JULES Centre. Please try this at least once before the School begins to ensure that there are no access problems.
Access to the NERC Datalabs project Please go to https://datalab.datalabs.ceh.ac.uk/ and follow the instructions there for applying for a Datalabs login. If you have any problems with this, please email Matt before the school starts on mfry@ceh.ac.uk 
Access to JASMIN

This is being applied for on your behalf: please DO NOT apply separately for JASMIN access. If you already have a JASMIN account then please tell us about it as soon as possible to avoid having duplicate accounts.

If you have time before the HJ School begins, please go to https://www.tobymarthews.com/hydro-jules-on-jasmin.html and explore some of the tutorials and links there (familiarity with what CEDA is and other available resources will be
MOSRS login

This is being applied for on your behalf: please DO NOT apply separately for MOSRS access. If you already have an MOSRS account then please tell us about it as soon as possible to avoid having duplicate accounts.

As part of the application we will make on your behalf, we need you to read and understand the JULES Terms and Conditions. Additionally, if you have time before the HJ School begins, please go to https://jules.jchmr.org/content/getting-started#get-started and explore some of the tutorials and links there. However, please do not try to log in to MOSRS until we inform you that your access application has been successful.
