International Land Modelling Forum (ILMF)

The ILMF emanated from discussion at the Land Surface Modelling Summit LSMS), held in Oxford, UK from the 12 - 14 September 2022.  It provides a forum through which land modelling centres and researchers can interact and collaborate on mutually beneficial projects.  Through this forum the land modelling community can share ideas, promote relevant workshops and meetings, advertise job opportunities, and support working groups to advance specific collaborative projects.

Through the LSMS breakout group interactions and subsequent summary discussions, we have identified a set of Working Groups that we believe the ILMF can initiate and support.  As these working groups form, details will be provided through the ILMF.

The modelling groups that were represented at the LSMS workshop include (also see links for more information on each model group): JULES , ORCHIDEE , JSBACH , LPJ-GUESS , TESSEL , CABLE Q , CLM, ELM, GFDL-LMMatsiroGISS-LM, CoLM, CLASSIC, SURFEX-ISBA

Please note that other international coordinating bodies such as AIMES, ILEAPS, and GEWEX/GLASS provide complimentary expertise and will provide a natural extension and links from the ILMF into other interdisciplinary communities.

The ILMF discussion list

The ILMF JiscMail is a private moderated discussion list for you and others from the International Land Modelling Community that share a common interest to communicate and to connect to each other. We encourage you to use it. Subscribers can join in the discussion and reply to existing discussion threads, post new messages to share news or collaborate on projects, announce conferences, arrange meetings, advertise job opportunities and workshops or just to keep in touch with your colleagues specific to this group.

The ILMF list is a PRIVATE DISCUSSION list. It has a unique email address, so when an email is sent to the mailing list email address it's distributed to all of the subscribers, who receive a copy of the message in their email inbox.

  • List owners (currently Dave Lawrence and Eleanor Blyth) receive and approve all subscription requests.
  • Only subscribers can send messages to the list.
  • Subscribers may reply to messages, replies go to all the list (i.e. all those subscribed).
  • This mailing list is confidential. Our mailing list will not be listed on the JISC website A-Z index of public lists.
  • The list’s archive holds a copy of every message posted to it. This can be found on the ILMF JISCMail homepage. The archive is PRIVATE and only visible to ILMS JISCMail subscribers.
  • Attachments are enabled for the list.

Already subscribed to the ILMF discussion list?

  • Complete the survey
If you've already signed up to the JISCMAIL could we now ask you to complete a short survey which is designed to help us to improve our knowledge of the Land Modelling community.   Your input will give us a better understanding of what areas and topics are of interest to you. We will not publish any of the information on our webpage, nor will we pass any information on to any other body or organisation. The survey is anonymous, and no feedback will be directly attributed to you without your permission. The results are for our benefit only and take about 5 minutes for you to complete.

  • Posting a message
The ILMF JiscMail group requires you to be a subscriber before you can post to it. Subscribers can post a message to the group by sending an email to ILMF@jiscmail.ac.uk. This will deliver your message to ALL the subscribers in the ILMF group. If your email cannot be delivered you will normally be sent an email back explaining what the problem was.

Please ensure that you send your email from the same email address that you are subscribed to the group with. The ILMF group is moderated so there might be a slight delay whilst pending mail is approved. Any mail deemed inappropriate for the group may be rejected.

  • Accessing the ILMF Archives
The ILMF JiscMail group is configured to store all the email sent to it in files known as 'archives' so you can find and view older messages.  The archives are accessible from the group's homepage. The archives are organised by month, with the most recent period displayed first. Following the link for the desired month, will take you to an archive index of all the messages for that month. The individual messages themselves can be viewed by clicking on the relevant item in the index.
