This should include details of the expected outcomes and any benefits to CEH of the visit. This section should provide enough information on the purpose and nature of the visit for the Hydro-JULES Steering Committee to: (1) assess relevance to Hydro-JULES and highlight how this fits in with the Hydro-JULES strategy; (2) identify the appropriate CEH staff member for coordination and review of the proposal, if needed. In the case of international visitors to the UK this could include: to present a paper, demonstrate techniques, analyse data, develop plans and establish contacts, tour facilities, attend a conference, workshop, or to conduct research during the visit. It needs to include why this is of interest to CEH. The application should include any expected product of the visit (e.g., joint proposal, paper, trip report)

Please indicate which of these costs you are asking for a Visiting Scientist Award to cover. Please include a clear demarcation between costs to the Program and those being covered by other sources. Costs should be estimated in GBP for each item. Those applying to visit the UK should provide as much information as known about travel plans, including dates, modes of transportation, flight or rail numbers and carriers, requirements for rental car or local transport (such as bus or taxi), and accommodations. A maximum of £2500 per scientist is available through this programme. Please include a cost breakdown of any expected expenses. Include the date, location, items and cost of each individual item and the grand total in this breakdown.

Travel expenses will be paid strictly against receipted actual costs in accordance with NERC’s travel and subsistence policy, subject to the limits set out in these terms and conditions.

Under the conditions of the CEH Hydro-JULES Visiting Scientist Programme I hereby agree to:

  • provide a one page report to the Hydro-JULES Project Manager describing the visit and its accomplishments within 30 days of completion of the visit;
  • appear in publicity and promotion materials for the proposal;
  • acknowledge the support of CEH funds in any publications or presentations arising from the visit.

The closing date for summer 2019 is 15 June 2019; subsequent closing dates are: 31 October 2019 for winter 2019-20 and 30 April 2020 for summer 2020.
