On 11th September 2019, members of the hydrology and land surface science communities gathered at the Royal Society in London for the Next Generation Land-surface and Hydrological Predictions meeting. This was the annual meeting of the UK Natural Environment Research Council’s Hydro-JULES Programme (www.hydrojules.org).

Prof. Dai Yamazaki explains CaMa-Flood
Simon Dadson and Eleanor Blyth chaired two sessions of excellent talks. These covered a diverse range of topics relating to hydrological forecasting, groundwater modelling and land surface science. Keynote speeches from Martyn Clark from the University of Saskatchewan and Dai Yamazaki from the University of Tokyo were extremely well received, and all the talks provided inspiration for lively (friendly!) panel and audience discussion.
There were also many poster presentations, including several very impressive posters from students who had recently completed eight-week hydro-JULES summer student programmes at CEH.
A selection of poster discussions
The meeting was a great opportunity to catch up on recent advances in hydrological and land surface research, to swap ideas and to start new collaborations, all in delightful surroundings!
Fruitful discussions at the Royal Society.
